“By an extra received last night, from the office of the State Gazette, Trenton, N.J., dated Wednesday, May 3d, we have the following particulars of the murder of four persons in Warren county, in that state” read the headline of the Maryland Sun on May 4, 1843.  This was when a local crime in the small area of Changewater, New Jersey, started to attract national interest, pushing the murders, now known as “The Changewater Murders”, into public interest.
